SUMMARY:TYC20 - Celebration of the Thomas Young Centre at 20
DESCRIPTION:TYC20 – Celebration of the Thomas Young Centre at 20 Share on X\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo mark the Thomas Young Centre turning 20\, we will be hosting a 2-day symposium\,  celebrating 20 years of cutting-edge research in the theory and simulation of materials and molecules at University College London\, Imperial College London\, King’s College London\, Queen Mary University of London and their international collaborators. \n\n\n\nThis scientific symposium will cover cutting-edge research in 5 sessions dedicated to Electronic Structure Theory\, Machine Learning\, Functional Materials\, Biomaterials and Perspectives on Materials Modelling. A separate session will be devoted to discussions about the future of theory and simulation of materials and molecules with the aim of developing a future Roadmap of Materials Modelling that identifies and articulates the most important challenges in this field over the next 10 years\, broad strategies for how they will be overcome\, and the likely impact of success in overcoming them for science and industry.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nConfirmed Invited Speakers: \n\n\n\nElectronic structure\n\n\n\nAndreas GrüneisTU WienPaola Gori-Giorgi\, Microsoft ResearchSkala: A Deep-Learning Route to Predictive Density Functional TheoryLucia ReiningEcole PolytechniqueDesign of functionals: needs\, news and thoughts\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMachine Learning\n\n\n\nKlaus-Robert MuellerTU BerlinAI for the Sciences – Toward understandingKeith ButlerUniversity College LondonMachine learning for materials science; a bittersweet lesson\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBiomaterials\n\n\n\nFrank NoeMicrosoft CorporationModesto OrozcoInstitute for Research in Biomedicine Barcelona Dominique HooglandKing’s College LondonAtomistic insights in to drug-lipid interactions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFunctional Materials\n\n\n\nKarsten ReuterFritz Haber Institut\, BerlinEmbrace the Mess:Towards the Modeling of Disordered Catalyst SurfacesGiulia GalliThe University of ChicagoMaterials for quantum technologies: the virtue of defectsAlessandro TroisiUniversity of LiverpoolComputations for Discovering New Functional Moleculesand PolymersLaura GagliardiUniversity of ChicagoClotilde CucinottaImperial College London\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPerspective on Materials Modelling\n\n\n\nAngelos MichaelidesUniversity of CambridgeAccurate simulations of interfaces are not easyNicola MarzariUniversity of CambridgeMichele ParrinelloItalian Institute of TechnologyThe Material Science of CatalysisAndrea CavalliCECAMGábor Csányi FRSMax Planck InstituteML force fields: status and some challenges\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegistration coming soon\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nUnder government regulations\, we must at least provide a 14 day cancellation period for customers\, from the point the booking is made. \n\n\n\nSponsors\n\n\n\nCCP9 (Collaborative Computational Project for the Study of the Electronic Structure of Condensed Matter)The London Centre for NanotechnologyUCL Condensed Matter and Materials Physics GroupUCL Physics & Astronomy Department. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOrganisers\n\n\n\nJochen BlumbergerHugh BurtonDevis Di TommasoJarvist FrostAlex GanoseRicardo Grau-CrespoVenkat Kapil Johannes LischnerCarla MolteniEdina RostaAlex ShlugerKaren StonehamMartijn Zwijnenburg
