Research summary

My research explores how materials behave while they are being manufactured, and how we can use that knowledge to make better products with less waste. I use computer simulations to study what happens at the scale of individual atoms when a material is cut, heated, coated or shaped. I then compare the predictions with laboratory measurements to understand how tiny changes within a material affect its strength, surface quality and performance.

My group works on metals, semiconductors and other advanced materials, with applications in precision manufacturing, surface engineering and sustainable production. We also develop and assess the computer models used to predict material behaviour, so that researchers and manufacturers can have greater confidence in their results. A central aim of my work is to connect fundamental materials science with practical manufacturing challenges.
